Doctoral Consortium

Doctoral Consortium

The Doctoral Consortium, will be held as a one-day workshop immediately preceding the Tapia 2007 Conference, and will provide an opportunity for Ph.D. students (selected during the summer of 2007) to discuss and explore their research interests and career objectives with a panel of established researchers in computing and in computational mathematics, science and engineering.

The objectives of the Doctoral Consortium are to:

Provide a setting for feedback on participants' current research and guidance on future research directions.
Develop a supportive community of scholars and a spirit of collaborative research.
Provide a new generation of researchers and scientific leaders with advice and insight into academic, research, industrial, and non-traditional career opportunities.
Contribute to the conference goals through interaction with other researchers and participation in conference events.

Student participants in the Doctoral Consortium will receive complimentary registration for the full Tapia 2007 Conference and a fixed allowance for housing/travel.

Participation

All Doctoral Consortium participants are expected to be present throughout the Consortium and Tapia 2007 Conference. Our experience has been that participants gain almost as much by interacting with their peers as by having their presentations critiqued by the consortium committee. Therefore, we expect all participating students to commit themselves to making the most of this opportunity by attending the entire Doctoral Consortium and Tapia 2007 Conference.
