Speaker Biography
Dr. Jose Romero-Mariona is a civilian federal employee and serves as the lead scientist for cybersecurity research and development efforts at SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific in San Diego, CA. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine in 2010 and was the first in his family to attend college. Dr. Romero-Mariona holds over 40 publications, various patents, and was named the Department of the Navy Scientist of the Year in 2015. Dr. Romero-Mariona participated at various Tapia Conferences during his undergraduate and graduate career. His research revolves around the concepts of cybersecurity, non-traditional systems (like critical infrastructures), and usability. He regularly mentors other scientists and engineers as well as STEM students and participates in outreach events to encourage minority students to thrive in college. He lives in San Diego with his wife, son, and daughter.
