Samuel A. Rebelsky is Professor and Chair of Computer Science at Grinnell College. At Grinnell, Rebelsky was instrumental in re-developing the introductory computer science curriculum to do “functional media computation” in a workshop-style setting. That new curriculum, along with other changes, has led to Grinnell achieving a high level of diversity in the computer science major, including approximately 40% women majors. Rebelsky’s scholarship ranges from the development of computing tools for the arts to effectiveness of various coding camp curricula on developing self-efficacy and broadening sense of “who does CS” among elementary and middle-school students. Rebelsky is a senior member of the ACM, a lifetime member of Computing Professionals for Social Responsibility, and an active member of both SIGCSE and SIGCAS.
